Racism

I just read a post by The Angry Black Woman that a) made me sick, and b) prompted me to go, out of curiosity, to a white supremacist message board to see how bad it really was there.

It is horrible.

I don't know what went wrong with these people, but something has to be done to prevent it going wrong in any more people. This whole idea of a "race"--based on shallow exterior characteristics--being somehow inherently superior, is degrading to all people, especially the ones who hold that belief and act on it. I knew that their sickness was still out there, but looking right at it made me understand how much of that vile nastiness goes on every day, to the extent that people make the time to get online with their fellow mad freaks and discuss how best to make people see the importance of their *cause.*

I'm completely disgusted.

I once checked out Stormfront. It made me so violently angry that I can't ever do that again. Kicking holes in the walls diminishes the resale value of the house. The shallow end of the gene pool is filled with vile parasites.

Angry black woman meets angry white people. Chaos ensues. From the point of view of a white supremacist, a post like "Thank you, white people," is like a Christmas present. Remind me how all of this is supposed to change the world? Ugh.

I am so disappointed in humanity sometimes. The post I liked the most was on the difference between anger and hate. I think being angry can be very constructive, and ABW is articulate even at her most incendiary, as in "Thank you, white people". That stuff is all true.

I think her anger is perfectly justified, particularly since it seems to be aimed at white amnesia over this oppressive history; what is most appalling is how some white people gripe about how easy black people have it with programs like affirmative action, yet they conveniently ignore all the terrible and subtle ways racism works to undermine opportunities for people of color in our society. She should be angry!

Thanks for this post, I wouldn't have seen her blog otherwise.

I try to support the Southern Poverty Law Center, who are fighting the good fight every damned day, in any way I can...

The only people I truly hate are neo-Nazis. We stomped those bastards into the ground over sixty years ago, and they keep springing up, like poison weeds, to ruin things again.
